5 June 2008

Hi - I just got back from playing at the Broadbeach Festival on friday night. Unfortunately due to extremely bad weather, [one of the stages nearly took off in the wind] - all of the outside stage performances were cancelled and I was contacted and told that I didn't have to come. But hey, I wanted to have a play, with my old mates Tim "Capin" Partridge bass, and Kerry Jacobson drums - so along with a some other outside bands, Branigans was the place to to be, and boy, just as well I had the baby oil so I could squeeze though the crowd, over the top and great!! Thanks to Doc Span & Leigh Spahic who, jammed the jamming with us.

Also, want to thank all my Melbourne supporters for making the trip a couple of weeks ago, one of the best yet!! - Huge Thanks!!

Regardin my forced cancellation of those two Gold Coast shows. I have SINCE been told by the Promoter that he was given misinformation, & the Musicians Union was NOT at fault, the order to cancel was from the Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance MEAA.

The Promoter has apologized to the MUA.

I've got a couple of weeks off, so with Leigh Spahic - We're Back into mixing the DVD of The Basement show with my son Lucius [COG] drums and Harry Brus bass. There were a couple of Lovely surprises that night.

Next shows coming up - with Harry Brus bass and my son Lucius on drums, so lots of fun before he goes to England with COG.- Wagga Wagga NSW [ sounds like a drum fill in'it ] - on the 15th June , Guesting with Matt Finish. 27th June - Starr Hotel Mackville NSW 28th June - New Orana Hotel Blacksmiths NSW 29th June - Bradford Hotel Rutherford Cheers n Love kev

I Just Got the Sad News - A shining light moves on - I jammed with Bo Diddley in the Bombay Rock club in Melbourne - I was invited to get up by Michael Gudinski , the [ Promoter-Mushroom Records - at the time] -

I got on stage, picked up a guitar that was on stage [it was in open TUNING - [A or E, can't remember]].

Bo gave me THE LOOK, and said " You'd better tune that guitar boy" - I said "Its OK Bo, I know the open tuning"

Bo - [MUCH Heavier LOOK!! ] - YOU GOTTA TUNE THAT THING BOY!!! - me - "Bo its OK, I know it Lets go man"

With the dirtiest LOOK OF ALL, he rolls his eyes turns his back on me and launches into song. Bump a Bump Bump, a Bump Bump!!!

I start lickin -- He hears, looks back at me, he starts -- smilin - and by the end of the song we're rockin fine - jammin and dancin together having a ball with the crowd loving it.

My GREAT BO MOMENT that I hold dear in my heart. - Bump a Bump on Box

9 May 2008

Hi there - I regret to inform you that the KIWI NIGHT on the 9th & 10

27 Feb 2008 - The Bon Scott Concert news!!

Yes!! - it was huge !!!! - I'm still in awe of Bon's effect on people - and there he was, standing

tall on stage with us, in classic Bon stance, as we rocked through "Its a Long way to The Top if You Wanna Rockin Roll"

With some of his family, Pipers, organizers & around 10,000 punters all celebrating a great day and Idea that had come into reality.

At the sound check that arvo, it was the first time I'd seen Bon being carried into a show - I'd bet he'd have been carried out a few times!!! - The last time I'd partied with him was back stage at the Starwood club in LA after I'd done the support spot for AC/DC back in the 80's - before they got huge world wide.

The bit that I love about it, is that its a statue of a man who is not from a Royal Bloodline - a Politician, or Dictator, but for a man in Rock Music, with a Dream, from humble beginnings which will inspire all rock music lovers.

Goodonya Bon!!

I just got back from WA, -Karatha & Port Headland with my band Harry Brus & Mark Kennedy & special guest guitarist young James Southwell.

Then did 5 shows in and around Perth with my band and Swanee as Special Guest - Great playing with Swanee again, we did his hits, a couple of beaut acoustic songs from his new CD, plus the Partyboys hits.

I'm off to NZ on the 25th [March] to see Mum and do two shows- Saturday March 29th Buretta Park Hotel Tauranga 8pm & sunday March 30th Masonic Hall Devonport Auckland 3pm start.

Hope you Kiwi friends come to boogie!!

Show details are in the gig guide

All for now - Take Care - Love your Life.

Cheers n Love kev

Hi,  I just got back from another fantastic Thredbo Festival, and the only fire we saw was sparked by great musicians on stage. There was some lingering smoke as we left, not surprising after the amount of hot licks, runs chops & boogie, being cooked up by all the performers over the 3 days and nights. A Big Thank you to all of you who organized the event.

Every act on I saw was totally impressive, so congratulations to the talent selectors.

It is the most atmospheric festival of all, with all the mountains sawing up all around, totally different to any other event.

Right now I'm just recharging my batteries and getting back into some recording with some more shows coming up in March and April. Details

All the Very Best in 07- And thanks for your Support.

Hi, Firstly Happy New Year - I want to thank you for all the lovely emails of support, photos etc. Also welcome to all you folk who have just joined the mail list. After that article & photo in the Sydney Morning Herald on sat 6th Jan, I've had a flood of new supporters. They were turning people away, full house , great to be part of it. My south coast run was a beauty as well, ending with a huge crowd at the Towradgi Hotel, where we did a 2hr set strait through after the acoustic set. I wanted to test my body on a hot stage situation, the engine didn't miss a beat, sweated a gallon, so its all good and good to know that I'm on track and back. Off to Thredbo this Weekend to fill the Hills with the sound of Bluesrockfunkin music. If you want a treat, get there. Great setting and fantastic music. Love and take Care of each other. Cheers kev

We’re Going To Have To Throw The Kitchen Sink At YOU !!”

That’s what the Professor at Brisbane’s Royal Hospital Nuclear Medicine department said to the question of “What can be done?”

And that’s what Kevin Borich had to face in May 2005 when he was diagnosed with Nasophangeal Carcinoma , a rare form of cancer that attacks aggressively.

“That treatment took me places I’d never been before, emotionally & physically ….. you think you’ve been down in the dark times, but this is way, way,…. Way Down”.

No tunnel to even think about, let alone a light at the end of it.

I hope all is well in your world.
It's just got a lot better in mine due to the results of my last P.E.T. scan, which revealed that I'm clear from any cancer cells. Yes, its fantastic news... naturally, I still have the side effects to contend with, but at least I know I don't have to face those chemo/radiation demons again. I'll be having monthly checks for a year, then 3 monthly from then on.

I've been drinking and taking every "Wonderful" cancer cure known to mankind, The benches in the kitchen look like a drug addicts wet dream [though... all good stuff]. But as the Professor said, "We're going to throw the kitchen sink at it"... and that they did... so it all worked, even if the sink nearly killed me. Raw liver juice, diet and the rest of the supplement regime played their parts as well. So it's get stronger time for me, ready to get back to performing in April,... .. tune back in and let it all flow again.... I'm itching to play! I can't sit around & pick it off "That Tree" I don't have.

If you want to check out the album we produced for young James Southwell up here @ "Vibrating House" during my recovery, go to www.jamessouthwell.com. It's a beauty, featuring rhythm section Mark Kennedy [drums] Harry Brus [bass], Phil Emmanual, Mal Eastick & myself playing on a few as well...

Thanks again for all the messages of support and good vibes! It surely DID help me and it was greatly appreciated!!!! If you can make it to my shows, I'd love to see you. Cheers, Kev.

Hi there,
Just want to let you know about my last three shows for the rest of this year. Sept.29th Yallah Roadhouse/ 30th Rooty Hill RSL & 1st Oct Canterbury Horsely RSL. We are playing with Black Label and the Original Angels Band on each of these shows so it will be a great night of rockin delights.

After these shows I'll be entering the next phase of my treatment for nasopharangeal Carcinoma [Cancer of the nasal passage] which will put me out of performing till next year some time. The treatment has been pretty tough but it has to be done and I'm very confident that I'll be cured 100% after its finished. My Chernobyl tan has just got back to normal... I was lookin nice in fried there for a while.

I'd like to thank all of you who have sent very kind thoughts to me in words of support.

Cheers n Take Care, Kev

Howdy, I've just got back from The Broadbeach Festival knowing that its going to be one of the Biggest Blues Festivals around in the future. Big crowds attended, the restaurants must be thrilled as they were doing a roaring trade. Saturday we played at the Convention Center to about 4500 and had a great set and response from the large crowd.

On the Sunday the organizers asked me to host a jam session after playing a couple with my band, Harry Brus Bass & Mick Skelton Drums. Mal Eastick was first up & I left him to it with the boys, and he showed the huge crowd of around 9000 that he's back and cookin. With me back on, the expanding band grew again with Phil Manning doing a great shuffle, and next came Phil Emmanuel blazing away as I introduced him as the Wizard of the Guitar [ I asked him mid jam did his fur coat have aircon] Kinda like Eskimo Phil & Pineapple Kev [as had a fruity number on] see photo, a good laugh!!

Paris, Phil's keyboard player got up as well which really added the icing as we swung into Freddie Kings Goin Down. I called for a Harp muncher & Blues shouter,.. and on strolls the blues suede shoes of Mr Matt Taylor himself pleading for a Broadbeach woman, as he bent the original lyric [Freddie wouldn't have minded the subject matter] into a mini Felini movie. Then Phil Manning handed his gat to Pete Cornelius and I coxed this young fellow out to play some of the sweetest. [Pete, Ray Beadle & Darren Jack are three of the top young bluesmen I've seen.]

Whats that!.. Mannings manning Mals gat neck while Mals still strapped in!! Playing it to!! One more song... a Jimmie Read pumper and we leave the stage to an eruption from the crowd.

Hi,
Now that the dust has settled after my run of shows in Sydney june 17/18/19 I have to thank all of you who came and made it such a great weekend. The Empire on Fri the 17th was packed to the rafters and they had to turn many people away. Keith the manager called me and said next time, we have to do two nights.

Fantastic to see you all turn out to welcome Mal Eastick back on to a Sydney stage with us after his very tuff time with illness, all 4 shows we've done with him have been burners , and have achieved what I'd hoped, establish the fact that he's back and firing as strong as ever. It was my first Sydney show for 3 months and as I slid though the sardines to get to the bar, one lovely lady said "See ! We do miss you playing in Sydney " . Thanks my dear .. talk about a feel good!

With such a packed house it was incredibly hot on stage and a real effort to perform, but this drowned rat loved it anyway, especially having my son Lucius[COG] on stage playing the drums as if it was his last night on earth. I'm looking forward to seeing how the filming & recording came out.

The Ettamogah Hotel[18] & Premier Hotel[19] were both great as well, the latter another sellout, so I'm very happy and grateful for your support.

Stay safe and love one another.
Cheers kev

Harry Brus [bass] and Mick Skelton [Drums] had a ball in the “vibrating house”. Its been pretty quiet up here on the mountain until they arrived …we put down 20 back tracks in 3 days of the older material of mine especially all the songs that people still ask for...eg. The Place [an old La-De Da’s song I wrote ] and Celebration, Fishin etc. I’ll be finishing them off over the next months.

Luke Everingham's Party was fantastic. He asked me if I could get in touch with my old guitar sparing partner Joe Walsh to see if he would come out and play it. I said I’d do what Joes song says….”Leave a message ,maybe he’ll call” So I did. Time passed and I thought maybe he’s too busy with the Eagles tour n all.

Then one after noon the phone rings and its……”Hey …kev…great ta hear your voice….I can do that party you asked me about.”

So there ya go , in true Joe style he zipped out for a few days to do a party on a farm, then to NZ, for his work with mokai whanau ora, a community action group on youth & drugs organization, then back to the Eagles tour ala extravaganza. Don’t you just love him. Definitely not your average Joe…. superstar.

I guess it will go down in special gig folk law history. After over 24 hours on planes [from London] and many hours on the road, Joe gave us all a thrill and an insight into the wonderful world of Joe, playing a fantastic set with all the fire and passion that only a unique talent such as his can produce. This was truly a very special occasion, and those of the 600 that were there to witness it will be talking about for years.

Songs were, Walk Away/ Funk 49#/ Turn To Stone/ Life’s Been Good/ Rocky Mountain Way/Life In The Fast Lane. Then he got Luke and his kids up to play a couple, then Mal Eastick and John up, and we jammed on for another 30 minutes. THANKS JOE!!!

Nomad my new CD is now available only from this site... hope you like it.

Half was recorded with Harry Brus and Marc Kennedy. The other half with my son Lucius [COG who are recording at www.radiostarstudios.com USA. With Sylvia]

Lucius came up when I had no work due to being fired on the way to rehearsals for “Long Way To The Top Regonal tour”

And we did 6 new tracks, two paying reference to that experience.

Fortunately justice was done in the NSW Industrial Court a few weeks back and Stevie Wright, Lonnie Lee, Warren Morgan and myself feel great about the outcome, setting a precedent, so promoters will think twice about treating artist musicians as throw away items.

Hope all is well in your world.

Cheers kev
